VPRO Maandverbond

Half of the population has a uterus, yet most people know little about the associated hormonal cycle. Isn't that strange? *Maandverbond* explores the fascinating world of the menstrual cycle live via Telegram, without shying away from taboos. Dzifa Kusenuh is the host, joined on her journey by reporters Lize Korpershoek, Thorn Roos de Vries, and Fatima Warsame.

*Maandverbond* takes place over 28 days, the average length of a cycle, live on 28 Telegram channels. Participants can join the channel that corresponds to the day of their own cycle, with the help of an online cycle calculator. Together with experts, gynecologists, and other hormone specialists, Dzifa Kusenuh, Lize Korpershoek, Thorn Roos de Vries, and Fatima Warsame examine various hormonal issues: everything you wish your biology teacher had spent just a bit more time on.

In the private environment of their smartphones, participants receive daily videos, audio messages, or infographics that match the phase of their cycle. They can engage in discussions and share experiences. Why don’t we talk more openly about menstruation? What’s the relationship between sex and hormones? When is the best time to shine in your cycle? And how does menstruation feel when you have a uterus but don’t identify as a woman? The *Maandverbond* squad investigates all of this. The content carousel from day one will also be available on NPO3.nl.

The goal of this hormonal safari: to normalize the cycle, open up conversations, and learn more about the effects of hormones on the body, whether you're on the pill, using another form of contraception, have a natural cycle, or don't have a cycle at all.

*Maandverbond*: from August 1 to 28, live via Telegram and NPO3.nl.

About my role

I was involved in the meaningful ‘Maandverbond’ project from the very beginning as an illustrator and animator. My role was to translate complex information about the female menstrual cycle into accessible and visually engaging content. I created infographics and animations that were shared daily through Telegram channels, with each day corresponding to a specific phase in the participants' cycle. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to a project that normalizes conversations about menstruation and hormonal influences. Through my work, I aimed to raise awareness about the impact of hormones on daily life and make this important knowledge more accessible to a wider audience.
